The history of Cabrera
Rooted in the coast.
Originally founded in the late 19th century, Cabrera was named after José Cabrera, a Dominican war hero. For much of its history it remained a quiet fishing village and agricultural hub, with fertile lands producing coconuts, cacao, and tropical fruits.
Its coastal location shaped everyday life. The cliffs, beaches, and lush hills supported generations of fishermen and farmers while preserving a quieter rhythm than the country’s larger destinations.
Its charm lies in traditional Dominican coastal life—a blend of indigenous roots, Spanish colonial influence, and the vibrant culture that defines the region today.
